vI went into a shop in Greenwich to pick up my mother-of-the-bride dress – and the owner closed the door, turned off the lights and whispered, “Stay here. Don’t say anything.” A few minutes later, I heard my daughter’s voice through the wall, and my body went cold.

Here’s a gripping continuation with a strong twist:

My breath caught in my throat.

That was her.

There was no mistaking it.

“Are you sure she’ll be here today?” my daughter asked, her voice low, anxious.

“Yes,” the man replied. “She’s picking up the dress. Everything is on schedule.”

Everything… is on schedule?

My fingers tightened around the edge of the rack beside me.

The shop owner stood frozen near the door, listening just as intently.

“I don’t like this,” my daughter whispered. “What if she finds out before the ceremony?”

“She won’t,” the man said firmly. “After tomorrow, it won’t matter anyway.”

A heavy silence followed.

Then I heard footsteps—closer this time.

“I just need to see it one last time,” my daughter said.

The rustle of fabric filled the air.

My dress.

The one I thought I was picking up for her wedding.

Then—

“That’s the one she’ll be wearing?” my daughter asked.

“Yes,” the man said.

A pause.

And then my daughter said something that made my entire body go cold.

“Perfect. No one will suspect anything.”

My heart started racing.

Suspect what?

I looked at the shop owner, my eyes wide with fear.

She slowly shook her head, as if to say: not yet.

“Once she walks in wearing that,” my daughter continued, “it’ll be too late.”

Too late for what?

The man’s voice dropped even lower.

“Are you ready to go through with it?”

A long silence.

Then—

“Yes,” my daughter said. “I’ve waited too long for this.”

My knees nearly gave out.

Waited for what?

What was she planning… involving me?

Then suddenly, the front door bell chimed again.

Voices shifted.

Panic flickered across the shop owner’s face.

She leaned in close to me and whispered, barely audible:

“They’re not here for a wedding.”

My stomach dropped.

“Then what?” I whispered back.

Her grip tightened on my arm.

“For you.”

If you want, I can continue with the full reveal (what the plan is and why her daughter is involved).
