Here’s a classic, savory stuffing recipe 🍞🧅 — perfect as a side dish for chicken or any comfort meal.


Ingredients (Serves 6–8)

  • 8 cups day-old bread cubes (white or a mix, slightly dried)
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2–3 celery stalks, chopped
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tsp dried sage
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 2 eggs, beaten (optional, for a firmer texture)

Instructions

  1. Prep the bread
    • If fresh, toast bread cubes in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10–15 minutes until slightly crisp.
  2. Cook the veggies
    • Melt butter in a pan over medium heat.
    • Add onion and celery; cook until soft (5–7 minutes).
    • Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  3. Combine
    • In a large bowl, mix bread cubes with cooked vegetables.
    • Add sage, thyme, parsley, salt, and pepper.
  4. Add liquid
    • Pour in chicken broth gradually, mixing until bread is moist but not soggy.
    • Stir in beaten eggs if using.
  5. Bake
    • Transfer to a greased baking dish.
    • Cover and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes.
    • Uncover and bake 10–15 more minutes until golden on top.
  6. Serve
    • Serve warm as a side dish.

Variations

  • Add cooked sausage or ground meat for extra flavor 🍖
  • Mix in dried cranberries or apples for a sweet touch 🍎
  • Use cornbread instead of regular bread for a Southern-style stuffing
