Sausage gravy

Sausage Gravy 🥓🥛
A classic Southern comfort dish often served over warm Biscuits and gravy.


🧾 Ingredients (4 servings)

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2½ cups milk
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt (to taste)
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper (optional)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Cook the sausage
    In a skillet over medium heat, cook sausage until browned, breaking it into small crumbles. Do not drain the fat.
  2. Add flour
    Sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir for 1–2 minutes to cook the flour.
  3. Add milk slowly
    Gradually pour in the milk while stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
  4. Simmer
    Cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring often, until the gravy thickens.
  5. Season
    Add black pepper, salt, and optional spices.

🍽️ Serve

Spoon the gravy over warm biscuits, toast, or even fried potatoes.


⭐ Tips

  • If the gravy gets too thick, add a little more milk.
  • For richer flavor, use whole milk.
  • A little extra black pepper gives it that classic Southern taste.
