🍽️ Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy
A classic comfort food dish—juicy beef patties smothered in rich, savory onion gravy 🤎
🥩 Ingredients
For the steaks:
- 500g ground beef (mince)
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 small onion (finely grated or chopped)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp mustard (optional)
- 2 tbsp oil (for frying)
For onion gravy:
- 1 large onion (sliced thin)
- 2 tbsp butter or oil
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 cups beef broth (or stock)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt & pepper to taste
👩🍳 Instructions
1. Make the patties
Mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and mustard.
Shape into oval patties.
2. Brown the steaks
Heat oil in a pan and brown patties on both sides (they don’t need to be fully cooked yet). Remove and set aside.
3. Cook onions
In the same pan, melt butter and cook sliced onions until soft and golden.
4. Make gravy
Sprinkle flour over onions and stir for 1–2 minutes.
Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps.
Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
5. Simmer
Return patties to the pan. Cover and simmer for 10–15 minutes until cooked through and gravy thickens.
