Ingredients (serves 4)

For the Steaks:

  • 1 lb ground beef (preferably 80% lean)

Instructions

  1. Make the Patties:
    • In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
    • Form into 4 oval-shaped patties.
  2. Cook the Patties:
    • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat with a little oil.
    • Brown the patties on both sides (about 3–4 minutes per side). Remove and set aside.
  3. Make the Onion Gravy:
    • In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté sliced onions until soft and caramelized (5–7 minutes).
    • Stir in flour and cook 1–2 minutes.
    • Gradually whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer until thickened.
  4. Combine and Simmer:
    • Return the patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, and simmer for 10–15 minutes until cooked through.
  5. Serve:
    • Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles, topped with plenty of onion gravy.
