Salisbury steak

Here’s a classic Salisbury Steak recipe that’s hearty, comforting, and perfect for a family dinner:


Ingredients (serves 4)

For the steaks:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the gravy:

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Mix the steak patties:
    • In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
    • Shape into 4 oval patties.
  2. Cook the patties:
    • In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the patties 3–4 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
  3. Make the gravy:
    • In the same skillet, melt butter.
    • Whisk in flour and cook 1–2 minutes until golden.
    • Gradually whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Combine:
    • Return patties to the skillet, spooning gravy over them.
    • Simmer 10–15 minutes until patties are cooked through.
  5. Serve:
    • Perfect over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.

💡 Tip: Add sautéed mushrooms or caramelized onions to the gravy for extra flavor.
