Macaroni Casserole

🧀 Macaroni Casserole (Creamy, Cheesy & Baked)

Macaroni casserole is a comforting oven-baked meal that’s creamy inside and slightly crispy on top.


🧂 Ingredients

  • 2 cups macaroni pasta
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1–1.5 cups grated cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 cup cooked chicken or vegetables (optional)

🔥 Instructions

1. Cook pasta

  • Boil macaroni in salted water until just tender (al dente)
  • Drain and set aside

2. Make white sauce

  • Melt butter in a pan
  • Add flour and stir 1–2 minutes (don’t brown it)
  • Slowly add milk, whisking to avoid lumps
  • Cook until slightly thick
  • Add salt, pepper, garlic powder

3. Add cheese

  • Mix in half the cheese until melted and creamy

4. Combine

  • Mix pasta (and chicken/veg if using) into the sauce

5. Bake

  • Pour into baking dish
  • Top with remaining cheese
  • Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 20–25 minutes
  • Broil last 2–3 minutes for golden top

🍽️ Tips for best taste

  • Don’t overcook pasta before baking
  • Mix in a little mozzarella for extra stretch
  • Add chili flakes for a spicy version
