How to Unclog Shower Head Holes and Increase Water Pressure

If your shower head is clogged and water pressure feels weak, it’s usually due to mineral buildup (like limescale) blocking the tiny holes. Here are a few simple ways to fix it:

1) Vinegar soak (best method)

  • Remove the shower head (if possible).
  • Fill a bowl or plastic bag with white vinegar.
  • Soak the shower head for 1–2 hours (or overnight for heavy buildup).
  • Scrub the holes gently with an old toothbrush.
  • Rinse with warm water and reattach.

2) Clean without removing it

  • Fill a plastic bag with vinegar.
  • Tie it around the shower head so the holes are submerged.
  • Leave it for a few hours, then run hot water through it.

3) Use a pin or needle for stubborn clogs

  • Gently poke each hole to break up mineral deposits.
  • Be careful not to damage or enlarge the holes.

4) Flush it out

  • After cleaning, run hot water for a few minutes to flush out loosened debris.

5) Prevent future clogging

  • Clean it every 1–2 months with vinegar.
  • If your water is very hard, consider a small inline water filter.

If pressure is still low after cleaning, the issue might be in the pipe or valve—not the shower head itself.
