🍅 Fried Green Tomatoes Recipe (Crispy Southern Style)

Crispy on the outside, tangy on the inside—this is a classic comfort dish.


đź§ľ Ingredients

  • 3–4 green tomatoes (firm, unripe)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk (optional, for dipping)
  • 1 cup cornmeal (or breadcrumbs for extra crunch)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika (optional)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

🍳 Instructions

  1. Slice tomatoes
    Cut into 1/4-inch thick slices. Lightly salt them and let sit for 10 minutes, then pat dry.
  2. Set up coating station
    • Bowl 1: flour
    • Bowl 2: beaten eggs (mixed with milk if using)
    • Bowl 3: cornmeal mixed with salt, pepper, paprika
  3. Coat tomatoes
    Dredge each slice in flour → dip in egg → coat in cornmeal mixture.
  4. Fry
    Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry slices 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  5. Drain
    Place on paper towels to remove excess oil.

  • As a side with fried chicken or burgers
