Fried Green Tomatoes (Crispy Southern Classic) 🍅✨
A tangy, crunchy treat that’s perfect as an appetizer or side.
📝 Ingredients:
- 3–4 medium green tomatoes (firm)
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup cornmeal
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp paprika (optional)
- 1–2 eggs (beaten)
- Oil for frying (vegetable, canola, or peanut)
👩🍳 Instructions:
1. Prep Tomatoes
- Slice green tomatoes into ½-inch thick rounds
- Pat dry with a paper towel
2. Prepare Coatings
- Flour mixture: flour, salt, pepper, paprika
- Cornmeal coating: mix cornmeal with a little salt & pepper
- Beat eggs in a small bowl
3. Coat Tomatoes
- Dip each slice in flour → egg → cornmeal mixture
- Make sure each slice is fully coated
4. Fry
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat
- Fry tomatoes 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown
- Drain on paper towels
5. Serve
- Serve warm with dipping sauce (ranch, spicy mayo, or remoulade)
🔥 Tips:
- Use firm green tomatoes—they hold up better during frying
- Keep oil at medium heat for even crisping
- Optional: add cayenne or chili powder for a spicy kick
I can also give a baked version of fried green tomatoes if you want a lighter, less-oily option 😄.
