Basic Components

  • Chicken: Bone-in or boneless, skin-on or skinless (thighs are especially juicy).

Simple Crockpot Method

  2. Add to crockpot: Place chicken in the crockpot with liquid or sauce, and optionally, vegetables.
  3. Cook:
    • Low setting: 6–8 hours
    • High setting: 3–4 hours
  4. Finish:
    • Check that chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
    • For crispy skin, broil in the oven 3–5 minutes after slow cooking.
  5. Serve: With rice, mashed potatoes, pasta, or inside tacos/sandwiches.

💡 Tips:

  • Avoid overcooking: chicken can become stringy if left too long.
  • For shredded chicken, remove bones (if any) and shred directly in the crockpot with juices.
  • Experiment with sauces: BBQ, teriyaki, or creamy mushroom all work beautifully.
