Fried chicken is a classic comfort food with a crunchy coating and juicy meat inside. Here’s a simple way to make crispy fried chicken at home. 🍗
Crispy Fried Chicken
Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken cut into pieces (or 8–10 chicken pieces)
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
Instructions
- Marinate the chicken
Place chicken pieces in a bowl with buttermilk. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (overnight is best). - Prepare the coating
In a large bowl mix flour, salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. - Coat the chicken
Remove chicken from buttermilk and dredge each piece in the seasoned flour. Press the flour onto the chicken for a thicker crust. - Heat the oil
Heat oil in a deep pan to about 350°F (175°C). - Fry the chicken
Carefully place chicken in the hot oil. Fry 12–15 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through. - Drain
Remove chicken and place on a rack or paper towels to drain excess oil.
Tips for Extra Crispy Chicken
- Double-dip: dip chicken in buttermilk again and coat with flour twice.
- Let coated chicken rest 10–15 minutes before frying to help the crust stick.
- Don’t overcrowd the pan.
