Biscuits and Sausage Gravy

Biscuits and Sausage Gravy is a classic, rich comfort breakfast—soft, flaky biscuits smothered in creamy, savory sausage gravy.


🧈 Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

For the sausage gravy:

  • 500 g ground sausage (beef or chicken)
  • 2–3 tbsp butter (if sausage is lean)
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2–3 cups milk
  • Salt & black pepper (go heavy on pepper!)
  • Optional: pinch of chili flakes

For the biscuits:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup cold butter (cubed)
  • 3/4 cup milk

🥐 1. Make the biscuits

  1. Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F).
  2. Mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
  4. Add milk and mix gently (don’t overwork).
  5. Roll lightly, cut into rounds, and place on tray.
  6. Bake 12–15 minutes until golden.

🍳 2. Prepare the sausage gravy

  1. Cook sausage in a pan over medium heat until browned.
  2. Add butter if needed, then sprinkle in flour.
  3. Stir for 1–2 minutes (this forms the base).
  4. Slowly pour in milk, stirring constantly.
  5. Simmer until thick and creamy.
  6. Season with salt and plenty of black pepper.

🍽️ Serve

  • Split warm biscuits in half
  • Pour hot sausage gravy generously over the top

  • For extra flavor, add a little garlic powder or onion powder
  • If gravy gets too thick, just add a splash of milk
  • Best served fresh and hot!
