Ingredients
For the crust
- 2½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup cold butter, cubed
- 6–8 tbsp ice water
For the filling
- 8–10 apples, peeled and sliced
- ¾ cup sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp flour or cornstarch
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp vanilla
For the top
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp sugar
Instructions
- Make the dough
Mix flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Add ice water a little at a time until dough forms. Divide into two portions and chill for 30 minutes. - Prepare the filling
In a large bowl mix apples, sugars, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla. - Roll the crust
Roll one dough portion into a large rectangle and place in a 10×15-inch sheet pan. - Add filling
Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust. - Top crust
Roll the second dough piece and place over the apples. Seal edges and cut small vents. - Brush & sprinkle
Brush with egg wash and sprinkle sugar on top. - Bake
Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 40–45 minutes until golden and bubbly.
Optional Add-Ons
- Drizzle with Caramel sauce
- Serve with Vanilla ice cream 🍨
- Sprinkle powdered sugar on top
