Wonton soup

Here’s a simple and comforting Wonton Soup 🥟🍲 recipe—a classic Chinese-style soup with tender wontons in flavorful broth:


Ingredients

For the Wontons

  • 200 g ground pork or chicken
  • 2 green onions (finely chopped)
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • ½ tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 clove garlic (minced)
  • Wonton wrappers (about 20–25)

For the Broth

  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 2 slices fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic (crushed)
  • 1–2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Optional: sliced mushrooms, bok choy, or spinach

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Wontons
    • Mix ground meat, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic in a bowl.
    • Place ~1 tsp of filling in the center of each wonton wrapper.
    • Moisten edges with water, fold, and seal. You can fold into triangles or the traditional wonton shape.
  2. Make the Broth
    • Bring chicken broth, ginger slices, and crushed garlic to a gentle simmer in a pot.
    • Add soy sauce and sesame oil.
  3. Cook the Wontons
    • Carefully drop wontons into simmering broth.
    • Cook 4–6 minutes, until wontons float and are fully cooked.
  4. Add Vegetables (Optional)
    • Add mushrooms, bok choy, or spinach in the last 2–3 minutes of cooking.
  5. Serve
    • Remove ginger slices before serving.
    • Garnish with chopped green onions or a few drops of sesame oil.

✅ Tips:

  • Don’t overfill the wontons to avoid them bursting during cooking.
  • Freeze uncooked wontons on a tray, then transfer to a bag for later use.
  • Add a splash of rice vinegar or chili oil for extra flavor when serving.
