Steak with Mashed Potatoes

Posted on March 20, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a simple way to make a classic steak with mashed potatoes combo that’s restaurant-style but easy enough for home:

Ingredients

For the Steak:

  • 2 steaks (ribeye, sirloin, or your favorite cut)
  • Salt and black pepper
  • 1–2 tbsp butter
  • 1–2 cloves garlic, smashed
  • Fresh herbs (rosemary or thyme, optional)

For the Mashed Potatoes:

  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 3–4 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup milk or cream (adjust for creaminess)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

1. Make the Mashed Potatoes:

  1. Boil potatoes in salted water until fork-tender (about 15 minutes).
  2. Drain and return to pot.
  3. Mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy.

2. Cook the Steak:

  1. Let steaks sit at room temperature for 15–20 minutes.
  2. Season generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Heat a skillet over high heat until very hot.
  4. Add butter, garlic, and herbs, then sear steak 3–5 minutes per side (depending on thickness and desired doneness).
  5. Spoon some melted butter over the steak while cooking for extra flavor.
  6. Let steaks rest 5 minutes before serving.

3. Serve:
Plate the steak with a generous scoop of mashed potatoes on the side. You can drizzle the pan juices or make a quick gravy for extra deliciousness.

If you want, I can also give a shortcut version with garlic butter steak and creamy mashed potatoes that only takes 20 minutes total—perfect for a quick but impressive dinner.

Do you want me to do that?
