Scotch egg

Scotch Egg 🥚 is a popular British snack made by wrapping a boiled egg in seasoned meat, coating it with breadcrumbs, and deep-frying or baking it until crispy.

Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs (for boiling)
  • 300 g ground sausage or minced chicken/beef
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp paprika or chili powder
  • 1 egg (beaten, for coating)
  • ½ cup flour
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Boil the Eggs
    • Boil 4 eggs for about 6–7 minutes (soft or medium center).
    • Cool in cold water and peel carefully.
  2. Prepare the Meat Mixture
    • In a bowl mix minced meat, chopped onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika.
  3. Wrap the Eggs
    • Divide the meat mixture into 4 portions.
    • Flatten each portion in your hand and wrap it around a boiled egg, covering it completely.
  4. Coat the Eggs
    • Roll each meat-covered egg in flour, then dip in beaten egg, and coat with breadcrumbs.
  5. Cook
    • Deep fry: Heat oil and fry for about 5–6 minutes until golden brown.
    • Bake option: Bake at 200 °C (400 °F) for 25–30 minutes.

Serving

Cut the Scotch egg in half and serve warm with:

  • mustard sauce
  • ketchup
  • spicy mayo
