Pickled Onions 🧅✨

Pickled onions are tangy, crunchy, and easy to make. They’re great on burgers, tacos, sandwiches, salads, or rice dishes.

Ingredients

  • 1 large red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup vinegar (white vinegar or apple cider vinegar)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons salt
  • 1–2 garlic cloves (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon black peppercorns (optional)

Instructions

  1. Slice the onion thinly and place it in a clean jar or bowl.
  2. Heat the brine: In a small saucepan, combine vinegar, water, sugar, and salt. Heat until sugar and salt dissolve.
  3. Add flavorings like garlic or peppercorns if desired.
  4. Pour the hot liquid over the onions until fully covered.
  5. Cool and store: Let it cool at room temperature, then cover and refrigerate.

Ready Time

  • Can be eaten in 30 minutes, but best after 2–4 hours.

Storage

  • Keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Tips

  • Add sliced chili for spicy pickled onions 🌶️
  • Add beet slices for a bright pink color.
