Mexican Shrimp Cocktail (Cóctel de Camarones) 🍤🍅
A refreshing, tangy, and slightly spicy shrimp dish—perfect as an appetizer or light meal!


🧾 Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 500g (1 lb) cooked shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup tomato juice (or Clamato)
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ½ cup finely chopped onion
  • 1–2 medium tomatoes, diced
  • ½ cup cucumber, diced (optional)
  • ½ cup celery, chopped
  • 1–2 jalapeños or serrano peppers, finely chopped (optional)
  • Juice of 2–3 limes
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Optional: avocado, diced, for garnish
  • Tortilla chips or saltine crackers, for serving

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prepare the shrimp

  • If raw, boil shrimp in salted water for 2–3 minutes until pink and opaque
  • Drain and chill

2. Mix the cocktail

  • In a large bowl, combine tomato juice, ketchup, lime juice, onion, tomato, cucumber, celery, and jalapeño
  • Season with salt and pepper

3. Add shrimp

  • Gently stir in shrimp and cilantro
  • Chill for 30–60 minutes for flavors to meld

4. Serve

  • Spoon into individual glasses or bowls
  • Garnish with avocado and extra cilantro
  • Serve with tortilla chips or crackers
