🥔 Mashed Potatoes and Gravy

A classic comfort-food side dish with creamy potatoes topped with rich savory gravy. 🍽️

🛒 Ingredients (Serves 4)

For the Mashed Potatoes

  • 2 pounds potatoes (russet or Yukon gold), peeled and cubed
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • ½ cup warm milk or cream
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

For the Gravy

  • 2 tablespoons butter or pan drippings
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth or chicken broth
  • ½ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Cook the Potatoes

  • Place potatoes in a large pot and cover with salted water.
  • Bring to a boil and cook 15–20 minutes until fork-tender.
  • Drain well.

2️⃣ Mash the Potatoes

  • Add butter and warm milk to the potatoes.
  • Mash until smooth and creamy.
  • Season with salt and pepper.

3️⃣ Make the Gravy

  • Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  • Whisk in flour and cook 1–2 minutes to make a roux.
  • Slowly whisk in broth.
  • Simmer 4–5 minutes until thickened.
  • Season with salt and pepper.

4️⃣ Serve

  • Spoon mashed potatoes onto plates or bowls.
  • Pour hot gravy over the top and serve immediately.

💡 Tips

  • Use warm milk so the potatoes stay fluffy.
  • For extra flavor, add garlic or cream cheese to the potatoes.
  • This dish pairs well with roast chicken, meatloaf, steak, or fried chicken.

If you’d like, I can also show you a KFC-style mashed potatoes and gravy recipe that tastes very similar to the famous fast-food version. 🍗🥔
