🍽️ Farcellets de Col (Catalan Stuffed Cabbage Rolls)

Farcellets de Col is a traditional dish from the cuisine of Catalonia. It consists of cabbage leaves stuffed with a savory meat mixture and cooked in a flavorful sauce. It’s hearty, comforting, and perfect for a family meal.


🧾 Ingredients

  • 1 large cabbage
  • 300 g ground pork
  • 200 g ground beef
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tbsp breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • ½ cup white wine
  • 1 cup broth
  • Salt and black pepper
  • Optional: chopped parsley

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the cabbage

  • Remove large cabbage leaves and blanch them in boiling water for 2–3 minutes until soft.
  • Drain and set aside.

2️⃣ Make the filling

  • In a bowl mix ground pork, ground beef, onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, parsley, salt, and pepper.

3️⃣ Fill the cabbage leaves

  • Place a spoonful of the meat mixture on each cabbage leaf.
  • Fold the sides and roll tightly to form small parcels.

4️⃣ Cook the rolls

  • Heat olive oil in a pan and lightly brown the cabbage rolls.

5️⃣ Make the sauce

  • Add tomato sauce, white wine, and broth.
  • Cover and simmer for 30–40 minutes until the meat is cooked and the sauce thickens.

🍽️ Serving

Serve hot with:

  • crusty bread
  • rice
  • or roasted potatoes

Some traditional versions add mushrooms or ham to the filling for extra flavor.
