Country Fried Steak

🍽️ Country Fried Steak

Country Fried Steak is a classic Southern-style dish made with tenderized beef steak that’s breaded, fried until crispy, and served with creamy gravy.


🧾 Ingredients

  • 4 cube steaks (tenderized beef steaks)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • Oil for frying

For the Gravy

  • 2 tbsp pan drippings (from frying)
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the coating

  • In one bowl mix flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  • In another bowl whisk eggs and milk.

2️⃣ Bread the steaks

  • Dip each cube steak in the flour mixture.
  • Then dip in the egg mixture.
  • Coat again in flour for a crispy crust.

3️⃣ Fry the steak

  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Fry steaks 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove and place on paper towels.

4️⃣ Make the gravy

  • Leave about 2 tbsp of drippings in the pan.
  • Whisk in flour and cook 1 minute.
  • Slowly add milk while whisking.
  • Simmer until thick, then season with salt and pepper.

5️⃣ Serve

  • Place fried steak on a plate and pour the creamy gravy over the top.

🍽️ Best served with:

  • Mashed potatoes
  • Biscuits
  • Green beans
