Here’s a classic Oklahoma Fried Onion Burger—juicy beef patties with crispy, caramelized onions smashed into the meat, often served on a soft bun. Simple, flavorful, and indulgent!


🥩 Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (preferably 80/20 for juiciness)
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2–3 tbsp vegetable oil or butter for frying
  • Optional: cheese slices, pickles, or condiments

🥄 Instructions

  1. Prep Onions:
    Heat 1–2 tbsp oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until soft and golden brown (about 10–15 minutes). Remove from skillet and set aside.
  2. Form & Fry Patties:
    Divide beef into 4 equal portions and form into thin patties slightly larger than your buns. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Cook Patties with Onions:
    • In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed and place the patties in the pan.
    • Immediately pile the caramelized onions on top of each patty.
    • Using a spatula, gently press (smash) the onions into the meat so they stick. Cook until the bottom is browned and crispy, then flip carefully, cooking 2–3 more minutes.
  4. Assemble Burgers:
    Toast buns lightly if desired. Place the patty with onions on the bottom bun. Add optional cheese, pickles, or condiments, and top with the other bun.
  5. Serve:
    Serve hot with fries, chips, or a simple salad.

  • Don’t rush the onions—they develop a deep, sweet flavor when cooked slowly.
  • Use a spatula to gently press the onions into the patties, but avoid over-smashing and breaking the meat.
