Slow cooker potato chunks, butter, and sliced onions

Here’s a simple and comforting Slow Cooker Potatoes with Butter and Onions recipe — tender, buttery, and full of flavor.


🧾 Ingredients

  • 2–3 lbs potatoes, cut into chunks
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 4 tbsp butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Optional: ½ tsp garlic powder or paprika
  • Optional garnish: chopped parsley

🥔 Instructions

  1. Prepare the slow cooker
    • Lightly grease the slow cooker or spray with cooking spray.
  2. Add the potatoes and onions
    • Place potato chunks and sliced onions into the slow cooker.
  3. Season
    • Sprinkle salt, pepper, and optional garlic powder or paprika over the potatoes.
  4. Add butter
    • Scatter butter pieces on top.
  5. Cook
    • Cover and cook:
      • Low: 5–6 hours
      • High: 3–4 hours
    • Potatoes should be tender when pierced with a fork.
  6. Serve
    • Stir gently before serving and garnish with parsley if desired.

💡 Tips

  • Add shredded cheese during the last 15 minutes for cheesy potatoes.
  • A little bacon or smoked sausage makes it even heartier.
  • Red potatoes or Yukon Gold work especially well because they stay tender and creamy.
