Pepper steak

Pepper Steak is a savory stir-fry dish made with tender beef, bell peppers, and a flavorful sauce. It’s quick to cook and great served over rice.


Ingredients (Serves 3–4)

  • 1 lb (450 g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 2 bell peppers (green, red, or both), sliced
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional but adds flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • Cooked rice for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce
    In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and beef broth. Set aside.
  2. Cook the beef
    Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
    Add sliced beef and cook 3–4 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Cook the vegetables
    In the same pan, sauté onion, bell peppers, and garlic for about 3–4 minutes until slightly tender.
  4. Combine everything
    Return the beef to the pan. Pour in the sauce and stir well.
    Cook another 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. Serve
    Sprinkle with extra black pepper and serve hot over rice.

Tips

  • Slice the beef thinly against the grain to keep it tender.
  • Add mushrooms or snap peas for extra vegetables.
  • A dash of sesame oil at the end gives great flavor.
