Pepper Steak is a savory stir-fry dish made with tender beef, bell peppers, and a flavorful sauce. It’s quick to cook and great served over rice.
Ingredients (Serves 3–4)
- 1 lb (450 g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
- 2 bell peppers (green, red, or both), sliced
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional but adds flavor)
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1/2 cup beef broth or water
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Salt to taste
- Cooked rice for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce
In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and beef broth. Set aside. - Cook the beef
Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
Add sliced beef and cook 3–4 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside. - Cook the vegetables
In the same pan, sauté onion, bell peppers, and garlic for about 3–4 minutes until slightly tender. - Combine everything
Return the beef to the pan. Pour in the sauce and stir well.
Cook another 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens. - Serve
Sprinkle with extra black pepper and serve hot over rice.
Tips
- Slice the beef thinly against the grain to keep it tender.
- Add mushrooms or snap peas for extra vegetables.
- A dash of sesame oil at the end gives great flavor.
