Here’s a classic Shepherd’s Pie recipe—hearty, comforting, and perfect for a family meal. 🥩🥔

🥧 Shepherd’s Pie

🛒 Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

For the Meat Filling:

  • 1 lb ground lamb (or beef for cottage pie)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, corn)
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef or chicken broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried thyme or rosemary

For the Mashed Potato Topping:

  • 2 lbs potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup milk or cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste

🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare Mashed Potatoes

  • Boil potatoes in salted water until tender (15–20 minutes).
  • Drain and mash with butter and milk. Season with salt and pepper. Set aside.

2️⃣ Make Meat Filling

  • In a large skillet, cook ground lamb with onions and garlic until browned.
  • Stir in tomato paste, vegetables, broth, Worcestershire sauce, and herbs.
  • Simmer 10 minutes until slightly thickened. Adjust seasoning.

3️⃣ Assemble the Pie

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Spread meat mixture evenly in a baking dish.
  • Top with mashed potatoes, spreading evenly.
  • Optional: use a fork to create ridges on top for a golden finish.

4️⃣ Bake

  • Bake 20–25 minutes until the top is slightly golden.
  • Let sit 5 minutes before serving.

💡 Tips

  • Use lamb for traditional Shepherd’s Pie; beef makes it a “Cottage Pie.”
  • Add cheese on top for extra richness.
  • Leftovers reheat well in the oven or microwave.
