Cabbage fritters

Here’s a simple and tasty recipe for Cabbage Fritters — crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfect as a snack or side dish.


Ingredients (Makes about 10–12 fritters)

  • 2 cups finely shredded cabbage
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1–2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • 1 carrot, grated (optional, for color and sweetness)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for extra crispiness)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika or chili powder (optional)
  • 2–3 tbsp chopped fresh herbs (parsley, cilantro, or green onions)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil works best)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mixture:
    • In a large bowl, combine shredded cabbage, onion, garlic, carrot, and herbs.
    • Add eggs, flour, breadcrumbs (if using), salt, pepper, and paprika. Mix well until it forms a slightly sticky batter.
    • If it feels too dry, add 1–2 tbsp water; if too wet, add a little more flour.
  2. Heat the Oil:
    • Pour oil into a skillet to cover the bottom (about 1/4 inch deep).
    • Heat over medium heat until hot but not smoking.
  3. Fry the Fritters:
    • Scoop about 2 tbsp of the mixture and flatten slightly in the pan.
    • Fry for 3–4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
    • Remove and drain on paper towels.
  4. Serve:
    • Serve warm as a snack, appetizer, or side dish.
    • Delicious with ketchup, yogurt dip, or spicy sauce.

💡 Tips:

  • Add a little grated cheese to the batter for extra flavor.
  • You can make them smaller for bite-sized fritters or larger for a main side dish.
  • Leftover fritters can be reheated in an oven or air fryer to keep them crispy.
