Salisbury steak

Posted on March 9, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a simple way to make Salisbury steak, a classic comfort dish with savory gravy:

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped (plus extra for gravy)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil (for frying)

For the gravy:

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions:

  1. Make the patties:
    • In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
    • Shape into 4 oval patties.
  2. Cook the patties:
    • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
    • Brown the patties on both sides (about 3–4 minutes per side). Remove and set aside.
  3. Make the gravy:
    • In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté extra chopped onions until soft.
    • Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
    • Gradually whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer until thickened.
    • Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Combine:
    • Return patties to the gravy, cover, and simmer 10–15 minutes until cooked through.
  5. Serve:
    • Perfect with mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, or rice.

💡 Tip: You can add mushrooms to the gravy for extra flavor.

If you want, I can give a shortcut oven version that’s easier and mess-free. Do you want me to do that?
