Instructions
1. Bake the Cake
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time and mix well.
- Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in another bowl.
- Add flour mixture and milk alternately to the batter.
- Stir in vanilla.
- Pour batter into the pan and bake 25–30 minutes.
- Cool completely, then slice the cake horizontally into two layers.
2. Make the Custard
- Heat milk in a saucepan until warm (not boiling).
- In a bowl, whisk sugar, egg yolks, and cornstarch.
- Slowly add warm milk while whisking.
- Return mixture to the saucepan and cook on medium heat until thick.
- Remove from heat, stir in butter and vanilla.
- Let the custard cool.
3. Assemble
- Spread the cooled custard over the bottom cake layer.
- Place the second cake layer on top.
4. Make the Chocolate Glaze
- Heat cream until hot (not boiling).
- Pour over chopped chocolate and stir until smooth.
- Add butter for extra shine.
5. Finish
- Pour the chocolate glaze over the top of the cake and let it drip slightly down the sides.
- Chill for 30–60 minutes before serving.
