Ingredients (Serves 8–10)

  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¾ cup (170 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (200 g) sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and chopped (about 2 cups)
  • ½ cup (120 ml) milk
  • Optional: ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans, powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven
    • Preheat oven to 175 °C (350 °F).
    • Grease and flour a 9-inch round or square cake pan, or line with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients
    • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar
    • In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
    • Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Combine Ingredients
    • Gradually mix dry ingredients into the butter mixture, alternating with milk.
    • Fold in chopped apples and optional nuts.
  5. Bake
    • Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
    • Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool and Serve
    • Let cake cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
    • Dust with powdered sugar or serve with a drizzle of caramel or cream if desired.
