Lasagna

Lasagna 🍝 is a famous Italian baked pasta dish made with layers of pasta sheets, meat sauce, creamy béchamel or ricotta cheese, and melted cheese.

Ingredients

For the Meat Sauce

  • 500 g ground beef (or chicken)
  • 1 small onion (chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

For the Cheese Layer

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese (or cottage cheese)
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Other

  • 9–12 lasagna pasta sheets
  • Butter or oil for greasing the dish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meat Sauce
    • Heat olive oil in a pan.
    • Add chopped onion and garlic; cook until soft.
    • Add ground beef and cook until browned.
    • Mix in tomato sauce, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
    • Simmer for about 10–15 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Cheese Mixture
    • In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, and Parmesan cheese.
  3. Cook the Lasagna Noodles
    • Boil lasagna sheets according to package instructions (skip if using oven-ready sheets).
  4. Layer the Lasagna
    • In a greased baking dish:
      • Spread a thin layer of meat sauce
      • Add a layer of pasta sheets
      • Spread cheese mixture
      • Add mozzarella cheese
      • Repeat layers until ingredients finish.
  5. Bake
    • Cover with foil and bake at 180 °C (350 °F) for 25 minutes.
    • Remove foil and bake another 10–15 minutes until cheese is melted and golden.

Serving

Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before cutting. Serve hot with garlic bread and salad 🥗.
