A lot of people either over-clean the wrong things or forget the stuff that actually matters. Here’s a simple, realistic cleaning schedule that works for most homes without turning life into chores all day.


🧼 Daily (or every 1–2 days)

These get dirty fast or affect hygiene:

  • Kitchen counters & dining table – food bacteria builds up quickly
  • Dishes / sink area – don’t let residue sit overnight if possible
  • Stovetop (quick wipe) – especially after cooking
  • Bathroom sink (quick wipe if used a lot)
  • Trash (take out when full or smelly)

🛏️ Weekly

This is your “reset the home” level:

  • Bedsheets & pillowcases – once a week is ideal
  • Bathroom (toilet, shower, floor, mirrors)
  • Vacuum/sweep floors
  • Mop hard floors (kitchen/bathroom especially)
  • Dust surfaces (tables, shelves, electronics)
  • Change towels

🧽 Every 2–4 weeks

Things people often forget:

  • Fridge shelves & handles
  • Microwave interior
  • Door handles & light switches (wipe-down)
  • Trash bins (wash them out)
  • Washing machine (run a cleaning cycle)

🧹 Every 1–3 months

Deeper maintenance:

  • Windows (inside glass)
  • Under furniture (beds, sofas)
  • Pillows (wash if washable or air out)
  • Curtains (if dusty or seasonal)
  • Kitchen exhaust fan / filters

🏠 Every 6–12 months

Big seasonal reset:

  • Mattress cleaning or flipping (if applicable)
  • Deep carpet cleaning
  • Behind appliances (fridge, stove)
  • Air conditioner filters (very important in hot climates)
  • Decluttering closets

⚖️ The key idea people miss

You don’t need a “perfectly clean house.” You need:

  • High-touch areas cleaned often
  • Hidden dirt cleaned occasionally
  • Deep cleaning done seasonally
