How to get rid of inner ear crystals and reduce vertigo

Posted on April 21, 2026 by Admin

“Inner ear crystals” is a popular way of describing a real condition called benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo, or BPPV).

It happens when tiny calcium particles in the inner ear shift out of place, confusing your balance system and causing brief spinning dizziness (vertigo) when you move your head.

The good news: in many cases, it can be treated with specific head-positioning exercises, not medication or surgery.

🌀 What actually helps “move the crystals back”

🧭 1. Epley maneuver (most common treatment)

This is a guided sequence of head and body movements that helps reposition the inner ear crystals.

  • Often done for dizziness triggered when turning in bed or looking up/down
  • Can be very effective after 1–3 sessions
  • Best learned from a doctor or physiotherapist first

👉 Many people feel improvement within days.

🧭 2. Brandt–Daroff exercises (home option)

  • Repeated sitting-to-side-lying movements
  • Helps your brain adapt and reduce vertigo over time
  • Slower but useful if symptoms persist

🧠 3. Avoid sudden head movements (temporarily)

While symptoms are active:

  • Get up slowly
  • Avoid rapid turning or bending
  • Sleep with head slightly elevated if advised

💊 What usually does NOT fix it

  • General vertigo medicines (may only reduce nausea)
  • Ear drops or antibiotics (not related to infection)
  • “Detox” remedies or supplements

⚠️ When to see a doctor urgently

Vertigo is not always BPPV. Get medical help if you have:

  • weakness or numbness
  • trouble speaking
  • severe headache
  • continuous dizziness (not just brief episodes)
  • hearing loss in one ear

These may suggest other conditions.

🧠 Bottom line

Inner ear “crystals” causing vertigo are usually treatable and not dangerous, and the main solution is specific repositioning exercises like the Epley maneuver, not medication or home remedies.

If you want, I can walk you step-by-step through the Epley maneuver safely based on which ear is affected (left or right).
