🦐 Mexican Shrimp Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) shrimp, peeled, deveined, cooked, chopped
  • 1 cup tomato juice or Clamato
  • 1/2 cup ketchup (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1 small red onion, finely diced
  • 1–2 tomatoes, diced
  • 1 cucumber, diced (optional but great for crunch)
  • 1–2 jalapeños or serrano peppers, finely chopped (optional for heat)
  • 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
  • 1–2 tbsp hot sauce (like Valentina or Tabasco)
  • Salt & black pepper to taste
  • 1 avocado, diced (for serving)

Optional extras:

  • A splash of orange juice (adds a subtle sweetness)
  • Worcestershire sauce (a few drops for depth)

Instructions:

  1. Mix the base: In a large bowl, combine tomato juice, ketchup, lime juice, hot sauce, salt, and pepper.
  2. Add veggies: Stir in onion, tomato, cucumber, jalapeño, and cilantro.
  3. Add shrimp: Fold in the cooked shrimp.
  4. Chill: Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes so flavors blend.
  5. Serve: Spoon into glasses or bowls and top with avocado.

🍋 How it’s usually eaten:

  • With saltine crackers or tostadas
  • Extra lime wedges on the side
  • Hot sauce for people who like it spicy
